EA College Football 25 is one of the best sports games I've ever played, but it's not perfect.
I was eagerly awaiting the first patch to be released, which was released on Tuesday, July 30th. However, it wasn't as comprehensive as many had hoped. A testament to the quality of EACF25 is that it allowed users to see areas of the game that needed tweaking to bring an already great game to the next level.
Most users agree that spin moves need to be nerfed, and that something needs to be done about the vision of CPU-controlled running backs. It's worth noting that the guy controlling the stick in this video is really high level.
Still, his ability to pull off so many spins in one play is so entertaining and kind of amusing that it probably still needs to be nerfed.
Meanwhile, watching a Road to Glory running back teammate run aimlessly towards tacklers while consistently missing wide open holes and lanes is indescribable.
Could we get better teammates, or at least teammates who don't run like their facemasks are permanently covered in mud?
Many users may point to other areas of gameplay, but this first minor update did not address the more significant issues.
Here's what was fixed in the first patch:
- Fixed an issue that prevented the away team from changing attack audibles in online H2H.
- Reduced how often AI players roughed the kicker during field goal attempts
- Fixed a rare issue where the snap would go behind the QB
- Stability and Server Improvements
It's unfortunate that we have to wait a little longer for a more meaningful update, but we understand that a bigger patch is likely on the way as we get closer to the start of the college football season.
Actual matches begin on August 24th, and a comprehensive roster update is expected before the season kicks off. That update will be extensive, but it's likely to include deeper gameplay tweaks as well.
Developers don't have the power to roll out updates as frequently as most users would think, and nearly every studio has to adhere to a schedule when it comes to distributing changes to their games.
The good news is that the game is still in working condition and users can still enjoy it.
Stay tuned for the next patch update, don't be surprised if the update size is quite large. I sympathize with users who are trying to figure out how to play EACF 25, Madden 25, NBA 2K25, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 simultaneously on their consoles.
