STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The New York City Fire Department responded to a fire that broke out at a commercial building in Castleton Corners late Monday night.
Island Coffee Shop and Double Dragon Martial Arts Academy were among the businesses damaged in the fire at 407 Manor Road, near Utter Avenue.
The fire was reported at 10:53 p.m. in a coffee shop inside a one-story, 100-foot by 50-foot building, according to an FDNY/EMS spokesperson.
According to an FDNY spokesman, 12 fire engines and about 60 fire and emergency personnel were dispatched and the blaze was put out about 30 minutes later, at 11:21 p.m.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation, an FDNY spokesman said.
Photos from the scene showed numerous firefighters inside and outside the restaurant responding to the emergency. Potted plants were still on shelves inside the restaurant, but the glass in a large window was broken.
Some of the windows and doors of the restaurant and martial arts studio were boarded up Tuesday morning.
Behind the intact glass windows of the martial arts studio, metal objects, shields and trophies were on display.
This is a store in development and more information will be posted as it becomes available.
