West Long Branch, New Jersey – Head Coach Carly Figlio The head of the Monmouth University field hockey team announced the 17-game schedule for the 2024 season on Thursday afternoon.
This year's schedule will see the Hawks go head-to-head against three teams that have played in the NCAA Tournament and two teams that finished the season ranked in the NFHCA Top 20.
Following preseason scrimmages against Penn State, Saint Joseph's and Princeton, the Hawks will open the 2024 season at home against the Lehigh Mountain Hawks at noon on Saturday, Aug. 31. VCU visits So Sweet-A-Cat Field on Sept. 2, while Monmouth will try to end a five-game losing streak at home against in-state rival Rutgers on Sept. 6.
Figlio played his first match against Duke James Madison on September 8th in Harrisonburg, Virginia, before returning home for the 40th match.Number The all-time matchup is against the Rider Broncos on Sept. 13. Monmouth has won the past nine meetings dating back to 2014.
Monmouth will play the first of six Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) games at Hofstra University on Friday, Sept. 20, kicking off a four-game road trip in 10 days. The Hawks will also travel to Columbia (Sept. 22), Drexel (Sept. 27) and Temple (Sept. 29). Both of the past two games against the Owls have gone into overtime, with the Hawks winning 1-0 in last year's matchup. Sophia Huses 67 goalsNumber minutes.
The team will kick off October with two home games against CAA rivals Delaware (Oct. 4) and Yale (Oct. 6).
The Hawks will travel to Iowa City for two games against Big Ten opponents. Indiana (Oct. 12) and Iowa (Oct. 13) will each play Monmouth for the second time. After losing to the Hawkeyes in 2016, Figlio and the Hawks beat the Hoosiers in overtime at home in 2017.
Three of the remaining four games are conference games, with the first scheduled against NEC member LIU on Oct. 27. Monmouth will look to extend its winning streak to five with games against Towson (Oct. 18) and Northeastern (Oct. 25). The regular season ends on Nov. 1 with a rematch against last year's CAA champion William & Mary.
Monmouth University is looking to make its third consecutive CAA Tournament appearance as the conference's top seed. The two semifinal games will be played on Friday, November 8th, with the final scheduled for Sunday, November 10th at a location to be determined soon.
