BIG RAPIDS — Ferris State University hockey defenseman Trevor Taurien earned an invite to the Detroit Red Wings development camp after his freshman season with the Bulldogs last year.
Taurien has been invited as a free agent to the Red Wings' 2024 development camp, which will take place from July 1 to July 5 at the Belfor Training Center at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. Taurien is one of 50 players invited to the camp, including 29 forwards, 14 defensemen and seven goalies.
The camp will be split into two teams, Team Red and Team White, and will receive daily on-ice instruction and skill development from a team of coaches led by the Red Wings player development staff.
Participants will also take part in NHL-level on-and-off-ice training and attend presentations designed to prepare players for the transition to professional hockey, experience the state-of-the-art player amenities available at Little Caesars Arena and receive feedback from Red Wings coaches and management.
The Red Wings 3-on-3 tournament will be streamed live on DetroitRedWings.com and on the Red Wings social media platforms Facebook and YouTube beginning at 8:30 a.m. Friday, July 5. The stream will be hosted by Red Wings radio announcer Ken Cull and Red Wings TV's Daniella Bruce and feature exclusive interviews with Red Wings prospects and select members of the Red Wings front office staff.
The Crystal Lake, Ill., resident appeared in 27 games for the Bulldogs in 2023-24, recording two goals and seven assists for nine points, while also taking 30 total shots during his freshman collegiate season, scoring the game-winning goal.
The Red Wings are led by head coach Derek Lalonde, who previously served as an assistant coach for Ferris State University's hockey team under current Ferris State head coach Bob Daniels.
