FC Cincinnati center back Myles Robinson will soon add the title of “U.S. Olympian” to his already illustrious resume.
Robinson is set to join the U.S. men's soccer team for the Paris Olympics, a source familiar with the matter confirmed to The Enquirer, who spoke on condition of anonymity because Robinson has not been officially announced as a member of the Olympic team.
The 27-year-old Robinson from Arlington, Massachusetts, will be a highly-anticipated addition to the Olympic team as he will be one of three over-age players permitted for national teams in a tournament played primarily for players under 23 years of age.
The Washington Post's Stephen Goff first reported Robinson's selection to the Olympic team on Saturday.
Sources confirmed to The ENQUIRER that Robinson will likely depart for the Olympic Games in the south of France after FC Cincinnati's match against Charlotte FC on July 13 at TQL Stadium.
That means FC Cincinnati will have to consider Robinson missing the team's home game against the Chicago Fire on July 17 and away game against the New York Red Bulls on July 20 before Major League Soccer suspends regular-season play for its League Cup in-season tournament.
Robinson has missed FC Cincinnati's four MLS matches while playing for the U.S. Senior Men's National Team in the Copa America and is set to miss the club's six international league matches this summer.
After the U.S. was eliminated from the Copa America on Monday, Robinson returned to FC Cincinnati in the Washington, D.C., area on Tuesday and helped lead the team to a 3-2 win over DC United on Wednesday at Audi Field. He is expected to be a key part of FC Cincinnati's backline again on Saturday against Inter Miami CF at TQL Stadium.
The Olympic tournament begins for the U.S. with a match against France on July 24. The U.S. will then play New Zealand and Guinea on July 27 and July 30. All three group stage matches will be held in Marseille, about a five-hour drive from Paris, the 2024 Olympic host city.
