England's star full-back Ellie Kildon announced on Saturday that he will join Team GB's Sevens set-up with the aim of building the squad for this summer's Paris Olympics.
Kildane, the Women's Six Nations' leading try scorer (nine), lifted the trophy with her teammates after the Red Roses' 42-21 victory over France in Bordeaux on Saturday.
England's victory secured their sixth consecutive Six Nations title and third consecutive Grand Slam title.
“With the Olympics coming up, there's an opportunity to train with the sevens group,” Kildan told the BBC's Rugby Union Weekly podcast.
“I'm going for the chance to join that group and see how far I can get. This is another opportunity to develop and I haven't been in sevens for a while, so I'm looking forward to finding something different in a new environment that's at the level of my game. ”
Kildan, 24, was involved in the launch of Team GB ahead of the Tokyo Olympics, but chose to leave to pursue a contract with the AA Pro XV.
England Rugby introduced 28 full-time, permanent professional contracts with players in 2019, with that figure rising to 32 in July 2023.
“I've wanted it ever since I was in the Sevens,” Kildan said. When his contract came up due to the coronavirus, he had to take a step back from the Olympics, which was heartbreaking because the Olympics weren't that far away.
“It's something I've always wanted to do and want to be the best player in the world, male or female. I think that comes with experience.”
Kildan also said “a few other players” from the Six Nations winning team would be joining the Sevens team, but declined to say who would be included.
Team GB's women's sevens team won gold at last summer's European Games and qualified for the Olympics.
