With Devin Haney leaving the lightweight division, the former undisputed lightweight champion has left a gaping hole at 135. Emmanuel Navarrete and Dennis Belinczyk are looking to fill one of those holes by fighting for the vacant WBO lightweight title on May 18th.
The game will take place in California and will be broadcast on ESPN+ in the United States. May 18 will be a special night for boxing, as the event will take place after the afternoon's undisputed heavyweight title fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.
Navarrete turned pro in 2012. Navarrete, 29, is a three-division champion who first held the WBO super bantamweight title in 2018. He then won the WBO featherweight belt in 2020 and the WBO super featherweight title in February 2023. In August he faced world champion Oscar Valdes, and in November he faced Robson Conceição, drawing despite the latter being dropped twice.
The Mexican fighter is aiming for his fourth world title and is competing in the lightweight division.

“Winning a world title is a unique challenge, but the possibility of achieving it in four weight classes is a goal that fills me with motivation and gratitude,” Navarrete said. “It's an honor to join a select group of Mexican fighters who have made their mark on boxing history. And to be able to do it in front of the fans in San Diego and in front of the fans in Tijuana is an honor. It will be an unforgettable experience. Feeling their support and energy in the ring will motivate me to do my best and ensure victory for Mexico.”
Belinczyk, a 2012 Olympic silver medalist, turned professional in 2015. The Ukrainian won the European lightweight title in 2022. His last fight was a decision win over Anthony Yigit in August. The 35-year-old will finally compete for gold after winning a regional title.
