The Lindbergh Elementary Football Club helps kids develop their skills as soccer players by learning from University of Tulsa soccer players.
To improve as players, these athletes need to practice and listen to coaches like TU athlete Ian McIntosh.
McIntosh uses his expertise to teach kids how to kick a ball while having fun.
McIntosh and other members of the TU soccer team volunteer with the Lindbergh Elementary Soccer Club during the summer as well as during the school year.
“Being able to impact others is such an important part of my beliefs, my team beliefs, and that's why we make time for it,” McIntosh said.
While the team is busy preparing for their own season, this is their way of giving back.
Lindbergh Elementary physical education teacher Keeley Flynn started the club a year ago and it's already had a big impact on her students.
“We have kids who struggle to get into the classroom, and especially now that we've partnered with TU, they get so excited, they stand up, they call their parents, they say, 'I'm going to school today,'” Flynn said.
Yahir, a third-grader, is here for coaching.
“These are TU soccer players,” Yahir said. “They're fun and they look like real soccer players.”
Real footballers give advice not only on the pitch but also in life.
“I hope that we can be good role models for them and inspire them to want to play soccer, not just play soccer but ultimately go to college,” McIntosh said. “They can see us enjoying soccer in college and hopefully that will inspire them to continue their education.”
