Promoter Eddie Hearn says Austin “Amo” Williams will be a “nightmare” for Queensberry captain Hamza Sheeraz on Saturday night because of his punching power and the pressure he will put on the younger fighter in their middleweight bout in Riyadh.
Hearn noted that Sheeraz (19-0, 15 KOs) is a “perfectionist” who likes to get his feet in the perfect position to deliver the most power possible with his punches.
But against Amo Williams (16-0, 11 KOs), the constant pressure will likely not give Sheeras the time to land punches while at the perfect points.
Hahn feels the 25-year-old Sheeraz will not be able to keep his cool under a barrage of shots.
This is always a problem for punch-intensive fighters like Sheeraz, who crumble when facing a combination puncher unless they can land a punch hard enough to score a knockout.
“Trench Nightmare”
“He's a nightmare for Hamza Sheeraz. I like Hamza, he's a gentleman, but Amo Williams is a nightmare,” promoter Eddie Hearn said at the final press conference for the Matchroom vs Queensberry “Five on Five” event in Riyadh on Saturday night.
“He's tough, physically he's on another level now, he's got a lot of punching power and Hamza is a perfectionist. You see him walking out in a nice suit, he's beautiful. Everything has to be perfect and it's not going to be perfect on Saturday night.
“You can't hit the perfect shot at the perfect time. This guy [Ammo Williams] He will fly around you, tearing violently at your body, his hands flying at high speeds.
“We will find out a lot about Hamza Sheeraz on Saturday. I don't want to be rude but now is the time to find out if this kid is the real deal because we saw a great jab, a great right punch. What it's like to fight on the front line, I promise Amo Williams will put you on the front line.
“If there was anyone I'd want to go into battle with, it's Amo Williams. Captain [Hamzah]I know he’s the Queensberry golden boy, but I have absolute confidence in Amo Williams.
Hearn's confidence in Williams
“If I can win this fight and take the captain's points, I can sit back and enjoy the fight between Filip Hrgovic and Deontay Wilder and maybe it'll be over in the third fight,” Hearn said.
“That's why he's the captain. That's how much I believe in him,” promoter Frank Warren said of Sheeras. “He's one of the best young fighters in the world right now. Everything he's done, he's done it right. He's a professional and Amo will know that.”
“He'll get to see how I've prepared for this fight. He'll get to see my power, my boxing ability and my sense of distance. He's got a great jab. For me it's one of the best.”
“You're going to see something special in this game on Saturday. I wouldn't make him captain if I didn't think he had the ability to score extra points,” Warren said.
