The game will mark ECU's first visit to Clemson and the Pirates' first road game against an Atlantic Coast Conference opponent since opening the season against NC State in 2019. The announcement marks ECU's third non-conference game of 2029, with the Pirates scheduled to host Old Dominion (Sept. 15) and Liberty (Sept. 22) at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
“We are excited to add Clemson to our schedule,” East Carolina University athletic director John Gilbert said. “East Carolina is committed to competing against quality non-conference opponents while continuing to showcase our brand across the nation.”
“This is a unique opportunity for our program to experience the best college football atmosphere in the nation at Memorial Stadium (Death Valley). We continue to try to find that delicate balance between playing guaranteed games and providing a competitive schedule for our program and our fans.”
The game against Clemson maintains continuity of power conference opponents on East Carolina's upcoming schedule, which also includes games against North Carolina State (2025/away, 2028/home), BYU (2025/home), West Virginia (2026/home), Wake Forest (2027/home, 2028/away) and South Carolina (2030/away).
