Texas Longhorns forward Dylan Diss Though he began his collegiate career at Vanderbilt University, the Austin native stayed true to his roots by bringing along a framed Colt McCoy Longhorns jersey.
Texas was originally Disu's first choice coming out of Hendrickson High School in the Austin suburb of Pflugerville, but his former faculty member didn't offer him.
But it seemed like fate for him: After two seasons at Vanderbilt, including one leading the Southeastern Conference in rebounds, he was sidelined by injury and found his way back to the Texas campus.
Having joined his childhood dream team, he struggled with injuries and initially struggled to find his true role, and although he was inconsistent at first, there were plenty of flashes of inspiration.
Fast forward to the 2023 NCAA Tournament, and Disu played the best basketball of his life up to that point, as he finished with 28 points on 14-of-20 shooting and grabbed 10 rebounds in a very close win over a very strong Penn State team, making it one of the most impactful performances in Texas basketball history.
That may sound like an exaggeration, but it's true: This Best of 32 performance was one of the most crucial in Texas' advancement to the Sweet 16 for the first time in 15 seasons. Texas ultimately made it to the Elite 8, losing in a very close game to the Miami Hurricanes.
All this speaks volumes about Disu being a tough player and one who doesn't buckle under pressure. Consider the mental side of his game and the rest is easy to imagine.
Last season, Disu averaged 15.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game while shooting an astounding 45.6% from three-point range on 3.6 attempts per game.
Disu's shooting percentage and his 6'9, 225-pound build will make him a stretch big at the NBA level. His 3-point shooting percentage is backed up by a 76% free throw percentage, and his 3.2 attempts per game suggest he has the ability to draw contact well.
Disu will need the size and shooting ability to play at the No. 4. His offensive role is clear, so the question will be whether he can match up with more athletic forwards on the defensive end.
Disu is a player who will likely be one of the final 10 picks or one of the first undrafted free agents to sign with a team. Either way, he has a pro career ahead of him.
