MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. – Moody Air Force Base has been selected to host the 2024 Army Sports Soccer Trials Camp and Championship Week, which will be held from March 20 to April 10 at Moody Air Force Base, Georgia.
Thirty-six Air Force service members from around the world came to South Georgia for a chance to be one of 18 members on the Air Force football team.
In preparation for the final Championship Week, to be held April 2-10, 2024 in Albany, Georgia, Moody partnered with the local community at Lowndes High School to use its indoor and outdoor fields for players to practice.
Steve Black, 23rd Troop Support Squadron Fitness and Sports Program Director, said, “We are honored to be chosen to host and are excited to work with Lowndes County, as we have worked with Lowndes County in the past. “We've had a great experience working with the county.”
There will be daily practices as well as several scrimmages against semi-pro teams for coaches to evaluate players' performance over the coming weeks.
Samuel McNell, 58th Special Operations Wing HH-60G Pave Hawk pilot and Air Force soccer team coach, is looking forward to seeing his players perform.
“We're looking to win,” McNell said. “We want to bounce back from last year, learn lessons from the past and show grit and determination to come back with a championship.”
During Championship Week, soccer players from all branches of the U.S. military compete against each other in a bracketed system to see who can bring victory.
“We look forward to seeing the culmination of their efforts pay off at the Armed Force Soccer Championship,” Black said. “We also hope people will come out to support and support the team.”
If you are interested in attending Championship Week, tournaments will be open to the public at Albany State University (ASU) on the following dates:
– Wednesday, April 3, 2024, starting at 3:00 p.m., ASU West Campus, Field 1
– Friday, April 5, 2024, starting at 4:00 p.m., ASU West Campus, Field 2
-Sunday, April 7, 2024, starting at 4:00 p.m., ASU West Campus, Field 1
The finals will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. on Field 1 at ASU West Campus.
