Dustin Poirier has named seven fighters as possible opponents for his next bout.
The 35-year-old former UFC interim lightweight champion, Dustin Poirier, is hoping to fight again, and the list of potential opponents is quite long.
“The Diamond” (30-9 MMA) faced Islam Makhachev (26-1 MMA) in a losing effort at UFC 302 in June. Poirier is 3-3 in his last six fights inside the Octagon.
Dustin Poirier recently appeared on the “Anik & Florian Podcast” where he discussed retirement rumors and his possible next fight inside the Octagon.
““After the Islam fight, when I got home, I thought, 'This might be the last time.' Then as the weeks went by and the pain from my injury after the fight started to subside, I thought, 'I have to do it again.' I've never lost two matches in a row. I can't quit this sport after losing. But at the same time, if I do it again, I want to give it 100%. I don't want to take the sport lightly.”
It was Jon Anik who presented Poirier with a list of potential opponents, which included:
Nate Diaz, Conor McGregor, Alexander Volkanovski, Justin Gaethje, Max Holloway, Charles Oliveira, Colby Covington.
Dustin Poirier responded to this (via MMANews):
“One hundred percent. Yeah, absolutely. If I fight again, and I do fight again, I'll definitely fight those guys that you just mentioned.”
Poirier has already faced McGregor, Gaethje, Holloway and Oliveira. He trained with Covington and missed the Diaz bout. The only fighter he hasn't been in contact with is former UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski.
Who would you like to see Dustin Poirier fight if he returns to the Octagon?
