Klay Thompson will have the love and support of his Warriors teammates throughout his NBA free agency journey.
And no one has made that clearer than longtime Golden State teammate Draymond Green.
On Thursday, the four-time NBA All-Star forward took to the “Draymond Green Show” podcast to explain his supportive stance on Thompson's interesting offseason.
“I personally want Klay to come back — everyone does,” Green said. “But if Clay ultimately decides he wants something else for himself, for his life, [he] We had the utmost love and support because what we accomplished together can never be taken away. The brotherhood we have built will never change. But we want it to end. ”
Green and Thompson have been Warriors teammates for 12 years. Golden State selected Thompson with the 11th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, but selected Green with the 35th overall pick the following year.
During their time together in the Bay, Green and Thompson helped the Warriors win four NBA championships. After losing to the Sacramento Kings in the NBA Play-in Tournament on Tuesday, they missed the Western Conference playoffs for the first time while healthy. How dominant Golden State has been over the past decade.
But as Green mentioned, despite their age, he still believes there is unfinished business within the Warriors' core.
“Ultimately, I hope he can come back here and finish this together like we have been and continue chasing what we know is for us and win a championship.” We look forward to winning and continuing to bring even more success to the franchise than anyone could have imagined.” [Warriors owner] Joe [Lacob]” Green added. “Joe definitely imagined it, but no one else did.
“You don't often get the chance to end a relationship with the people you started with. And we have that chance.”
Green wants Thompson to remain a Warrior. However, it is unlikely that Green will have a “bad run” with Thompson. Even if Thompson decides to wear a different uniform and wear No. 11.
Instead, Green is fully supportive of Thompson doing what he needs to do, and has no idea why players would be upset with teammates leaving in free agency.
“That's never going to happen,” Green stressed. “I don't understand that. Someone makes a personal decision for themselves and their family. [and] When you criticize your career, people get furious and say, “Oh, I'm mad.” to him.'' And that's funny to me.
“Clay is going to be in free agency and looking around the market, because I'm sure that's what you do in any negotiation. That's what you negotiate for, whether it's toilet paper or food or whatever it is. That's what you do. Here's how to do it, so [Klay] I will do that. ”
Green believes the Warriors' dynasty is not over.
But if Thompson decides to part ways with Golden State's iconic trio of Green and Stephen Curry, the veteran forward won't have any hard feelings.
