LAS VEGAS – Will fortune and glory change Peyton Talbot?
The 25-year-old bantamweight's diplomatic answer is, of course, to stay the course. As it turns out, that's how it used to be.
“Not much has changed (since I joined the UFC),” Talbot said during UFC media day on ESPN 53 (ESPN/ESPN+) on Wednesday. “I feel like I want to prioritize my career more. I've definitely spent more time expressing what I want to put out on the internet and everything else. But other than that, it's pretty much the same.
“That was around the time after my first (UFC) win, more people started paying attention to me.”
Talbot (7-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) will face Cameron Theaiman (9-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) on the main card of UFC on ESPN 53 on Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. He will want to remain undefeated against what will likely be his toughest opponent yet, at least on paper.
For Talbot, a win like this keeps him on the path to prospect status, and then he can start thinking about what would happen if he became a star.
Honesty is a great thing.
“So money changes me. Well, I'll just tell you right now,” Talbot said. “But I'm going to continue to be myself, have my core values, and try to compete as much as possible. Don't worry. I don't think I'm going to turn into a terrible person.”
