LAS VEGAS – Diego Lopez wants to turn things around with Movsar Evloev.
Lopez (24-6 MMA, 3-1 UFC) brought Evloev to the brink in his UFC debut in May 2023. Since then, the 29-year-old rising star has scored three consecutive first goals. After a round, he most recently scored a TKO over Sodiq Yousaf at UFC 300 on Saturday.
Lopez, who continues to climb the featherweight ladder, believes the time is right for a rematch with Evloev (18-0 MMA, 8-0 UFC) and hopes to do so at UFC 303 on June 29th.
At the UFC 300 post-fight press conference, Lopez told MMA Junkie and other reporters, “Next time, Mokhsar (Evloev) will be competing in International Fight Week, so please give me a rematch.” “I think the first fight says it all and I think in the subsequent fights people are saying he deserves a rematch with Mohsah.”
Evloev earned a unanimous decision victory over Arnold Allen at UFC 297 in a performance that UFC CEO Dana White called “the least entertaining fight I've ever seen.”
Lopez took aim at Evloev's fighting style in the rematch.
“I think it's really funny that he actually said on social media that my biggest accomplishment was actually fighting him,” Lopez said through an interpreter. “I went back on social media and told him that your greatest accomplishment would be to make Dana White like the fight you were involved in, just that I was involved.
“I like to call him 'The Determined Man.' I also coined the word 'Mr.' decision. 'I think his work speaks about himself, and I think my work speaks about myself. ”
