The Detroit Institute of Arts has been named America's Best Art Museum in USA TODAY's 2024 10Best Readers' Choice Awards. DIA won the top award for the second year in a row, beating out other institutions such as the Art Institute of Chicago.
USA TODAY reported, “The Detroit Institute of Arts, housed within the Beaux Arts Museum, manages a collection of more than 65,000 works, making it the largest and most comprehensive collection in the United States.” Visitors explore her more than 100 galleries, including the Center for African American Art, one of the first collections dedicated to African American art in a major museum, while learning about human beings from around the world. Enjoy your creativity. ”
The USA TODAY 10Best Readers' Choice Awards highlight the best in travel, food, drink and lifestyle. Each week, USA TODAY 10Best invites a panel of industry experts to nominate their favorite sights and attractions across a wide range of categories. 10Best editors review these nominations and select the final set of candidates to present to the voting public over a four-week period.
“We are thrilled that the Detroit Institute of Arts has been named the best art museum in the country by USA Today readers for the second year in a row,” said DIA Director Salvador Sallot-Pons. This recognition not only celebrates the museum's outstanding collections and exhibitions, but also highlights the dedication and passion of its staff in providing a rich experience for all visitors. ”
DIA's current special exhibition, “Rebirth: Black Cinema 1898-1971,” is a stunning look at the evolution of Black creatives both in front of and behind the big-screen camera. It will be free and open to the public until June 23rd.
DIA will also once again host the film as part of the 11th Freep Film Festival, which will be held from April 10th to 14th.
