After being eliminated in the second round of the NBA playoffs, the unanimous opinion is that the Denver Nuggets need to make some moves. The team certainly shouldn't fall apart, but the biggest problem is that with the loss of Jeff Green and Bruce Brown, they need to get stronger.
Nuggets insider Harrison Wind said the team has fans of former All-Star Gordon Hayward, who played in the NBA for 14 years. The following is an excerpt from Wind's article:
“Hayward was dealt to Oklahoma City at the trade deadline and was supposed to anchor the Thunder's bench rotation, but didn't have much success. He averaged 17 minutes in 26 games at the end of the regular season, then was taken out of the rotation during the second-round loss to the Clippers and didn't score a point (0-for-3 shooting) in 46 total minutes in the playoffs. But I still think there's some good basketball here. He put up solid numbers with Charlotte at the start of the year, averaging 14.5 points per game with a shooting efficiency rating that was in line with his career average. I know there are Hayward fans among the Nuggets.”
As for Hayward, it's starting to feel like his best days are behind him. He could contribute to a similar extent to Jeff Green, but it still seems very likely he won't deliver. With the way the salary cap is, the Denver Nuggets need to take a gamble to add depth, but Hayward might not be the right option.
