- Dane Swan enjoys victory on debut in professional boxing
- AFL great beats Dale Thomas in Adelaide
- He remained tight-lipped about his future in boxing.
Dane Swan reveled in his triumphant professional boxing debut after defeating Dale Thomas by unanimous decision in Adelaide.
Collingwood legend Swann, 40, showed off some impressive grappling and claimed a one-sided four-round points win, but claimed he had only been beaten once.
Naturally, all eyes will be on Swann's next move as he has a big opportunity ahead of him in the boxing world.
But the ex-pie insists he will only return to the ring if he is paid a fair price.
“Boxing is much harder than what we do,” he said. “I respect the people who do this for a living. I'm happily retired, but I think it's about the money.
“Win or lose, you need the ball to get in the ring.
“Whether I fight again or not, I'm still going to box and I'm still going to keep sparring because I really enjoy it. I'm very happy to retire undefeated.”
Looking back on his four rounds, Swann was elated that he was able to put into practice what he learned in the gym.
“That was nice, sweetheart,” he said. “I was a little nervous before I went in there, but once the bell rings, it's just like football. You forget about the crowd and just do what you're trained to do.”
“It was great, I really enjoyed it. I could have gone a few more rounds.”
For the time being, Swann is focused on celebrating, but it may be hard to get excited on a weeknight in Adelaide.
“I don't know if Adelaide on Wednesday night will compare to Las Vegas, but we're going to make the most of the situation we're in,” he said.
“I'm going to pour as many beers as I can. I've got a few guys here, so I'm going to enjoy them in the cupboard if I want.”
