Plans are still being worked out for UFC 306 in September, which has been renamed Noche UFC as the event prepares to celebrate Mexican Independence Day for the second consecutive year.
The card will take place at the Sphere in Las Vegas on September 14th, and UFC CEO Dana White has hinted at investing huge amounts of money in the event, but due to the huge costs of production it is expected to be a “one-off” event, with no plans to return to Las Vegas for another show.
While the full card has yet to be revealed, White did reveal the total number of bouts scheduled for the September pay-per-view, and rumors are still circulating about which fight will headline the show.
“I'm going to 10 [fights]White said: The Pat McAfee Show “They're the main and co-main fighters and obviously the card will be dominated by Mexican fighters.”
There have been plenty of rumors floating around about potential bouts at UFC 306, including a possible bantamweight title fight between Sean O'Malley and Merab Dvalishvili as the main event.
UFC flyweight champion Alexa Grasso is also expected to defend her title against Valentina Shevchenko at the event, but none of the headline bouts have yet been confirmed.
Another interesting aspect of the UFC 306 card is the seating arrangement.
The Las Vegas Sphere features 160,000 square feet of 16K resolution wraparound screens and typically accommodates 18,000 to 20,000 spectators for events. There are standard seating and luxury suites throughout the venue, but there are also spaces where you can actually stand on the floor to watch the event.
“Some people will be sitting in seats, some people will be sitting in suites, and then downstairs you'll actually be standing and watching the whole thing, standing room only,” White revealed. “And then there will be bleachers and seating.”
White said the team is still working on the full event rollout but is excited to see it roll out in full in September.
“I've already put $17 million into this event and it's not even September yet,” White said. “If I said I was going to put on the greatest live sporting event in the history of combat sports, maybe in the history of sports, I don't think anyone else would come and spend that money. [that much money].”
