Newark's Prudential Center has been known as the venue for some of the biggest combat sports events in recent years, and naturally, Shakur Stevenson vs. Artem Harutyunyan and Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois will be held here. High-profile boxing matches are expected to draw large crowds, as the fighters involved are more famous than the boxing itself, but wait, there's a catch: Dana White's UFC may have just destroyed the boxing world this time.
You're probably wondering why. We've seen the numbers for Stevenson vs. Harutyunyan, and they're pretty impressive. But they were completely unstoppable at Dana White's UFC 302 fight a few months ago. Why? Let's find out.

Shakur Stevenson will face Artem Harutyunyan at the Prudential Center to defend his WBC title. Considering it's Stevenson's hometown, you'd think they'd sell out the entire stadium. But the reality is a little different than you'd think. Gate fees for his boxing title defense were over $1 million, which is clearly lacking compared to the UFC.
UFC 302, headlined by a Russian and Louisiana native, drew 17,834 at the same venue a month ago. (In case you didn't know, Shakur is from Newark.) https://t.co/fkToTncJV7

Just a month ago, Dana White's UFC 302 featured Dustin Poirier and Islam Makhachev and broke all records. The gates for the entire event were $7,255,040. By comparison, this amount is six times that of Stevenson's boxing event. UFC 302 became the highest grossing event ever held at the Prudential Center.
Stevenson's WBC title defense drew 8,412 fans, while UFC 302 drew 17,834. Dana White's UFC events have consistently out-attended Shakur Stevenson fights.
