In a historic NCAA men's hockey tournament game, the Curry hockey team lost 4-3 to top-seeded Hobart in 4 minutes, 43 seconds of overtime. The Elite Eight game of the NCAA Division III Hockey Playoffs lasted into the early morning hours Sunday, making it the second longest hockey game in DIII history.
Curry started with an early 2-0 lead, but defending national champion and top-seeded Hobart fought back and eventually took a 3-2 lead in the third period. However, Curry scored one last point in regulation to tie the game.
From there, it took not one, two, or three, but four overtimes for Hobart to defeat a resilient Curry team.
The star of the game was Curry goaltender Shane Soderwall, who made 98 saves, tying an NCAA D3 record. Soderwall was named CCC Rookie of the Year and Goaltender of the Year earlier in the season.
Hobart controlled most of the more than 100 faceoffs during the game. Hobart, last year's national champion, was given everything Curry could handle.
In the end, the miracle for Curry would not have happened, but this amazing season will be remembered by all Colonels fans across the country and around the world!
This is a developing story and we will know more as we gather more information.
