Carlos Cuadras vs. Andrew Moloney has been added to the Vasily Lomachenko vs. George Kambosos Jr. card, which will take place on May 11th at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia.
Former WBC super flyweight champion Cuadras (42-5-1, 28 KOs) will defend his interim 115-pound belt in that organization against #4 Moloney (26-3, 16 KOs). This is a tossing battle.
When Cuadras was at the peak of his career, he would have easily taken on a fighter like Moloney, but he's now 35 years old and has lost five fights in the past seven years, starting in 2016. 2016 took something away from him and he hasn't been the same fighter since.
Moloney's Australian Advantage
Adding the 33-year-old Moloney to the card makes sense and since he's from Australia, the Australians will be happy. Moloney was knocked out in 12 rounds by Junto Nakatani in a one-sided fight last May.
Moloney bounced back by defeating Judy Flores by a 10-round unanimous decision in her last fight last December. From 2020 to 2021, Moloney lost to Joshua Franco three times. It's unclear what the point was in him fighting three times. Franco should have taken the next step after his first win instead of wasting his time fighting Moloney three times.
“I'm looking forward to the challenge of fighting Andrew Moloney in Australia. I'm here to prove that I'm still strong at 115 pounds,” Cuadras said. “There are a lot of great champions in my division, but I can’t overlook Moloney, a hungry fighter who will be encouraged by the Australian fans.”
Cuadras defeated Pedro Guevara in a 12-round split decision last November to win the interim WBC super flyweight title and looked in good form in his last fight. Although Quadras is not the fighter he once was, he can still throw punches and is very powerful when throwing combinations.
Defeat of Quadras:
Juan Francisco Estrada x2
Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez
McWilliams Arroyo
Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez
“I'm really excited to make sure this fight happens. Carlos Cuadras is up against some of the best in the junior bantamweight division, and he's the biggest fighter in the division,” Moloney said. Ta. “Nearly seven years ago, I went to see his fight live against Juan Francisco Estrada.”
Also added to the Lomachenko vs. Kambosos card is WBA women's bantamweight champion Nina Hughes vs. Cherneka “Sugar Neeks” Johnson.
