The University of Colorado has sold out of season tickets for the football season for the second consecutive year, the school announced Monday.
The Buffaloes open head coach Deion Sanders' second season on Aug. 29 against North Dakota State at Folsom Field (6 p.m., ESPN) as the team continues to maintain higher-than-normal levels of ticket sales.
Last year marked the first time in 27 years that CU sold out all season tickets and the first time in program history that an entire season was sold out. Last year and this year also mark the only years that season tickets have sold out before August.
Overall, season tickets are sold out for only the 10th time in program history. CU he sold off-season tickets in 1972 and then from 1990 he sold during his seven-year run until 1996.
“Selling out off-season tickets for the second year in a row is a testament to the strength of our fan base and Coach Prime's continued influence and confidence,” Colorado College athletic director Rick George said. “We're gearing up for an exciting season in 2024 and expect to see full houses at every game for the second year in a row.”
Additionally, this is the second year in a row that the Buffaloes' season ticket renewal rate has exceeded 98%, the highest in school history. The CU renewal rate was 93% in 2016 and 96% in 2017, but was in the mid to low 80s in 2021 and 2022.
It's unclear exactly how many season tickets were sold this year. CU has provided season ticket sales numbers in the past, but has declined to provide that information the past two years.
Since 2005, CU has typically sold between 19,000 and 22,000 season tickets in most years. From 1990 to 2003, CU sold at least 25,730 season tickets each year, with sales of more than 30,000 in the late 1970s. CU sold 19,599 season tickets in 2021, the last year for which data was provided.
In addition to season tickets, CU will offer just under 12,000 student athletic passes, which will go on sale July 10 at 10 a.m. Mountain Time. Some of these passes will be held until August for new students.
Single-game tickets will go on sale to the general public on Tuesday.
In addition to North Dakota State, CU's home schedule includes five conference games on its way back to the Big 12. The Buffs will face Baylor (Sept. 21), Kansas State (Oct. 12), Cincinnati (Oct. 26), Utah State (Nov. 16) and Oklahoma State (Nov. 29).
