Terence Crawford's coach, Bernie “The Boxer” Davis, predicts the fighter will knock out Errol Spence Jr. and force him into retirement when he takes on WBC junior middleweight champion Sebastian Fansola in October.
Bernie said Fandora (21-1-1, 13 KOs) has defeated a harder puncher than Spence (28-1, 22 KOs) in his 12-round split decision victory over WBO 154-pound champion Tim Tsiu last March.
Davis doesn't think Spence will have the same success at 154 pounds as he did at welterweight, where he held three belts before being stopped in the ninth round by Crawford last July.
Spence will struggle at junior middleweight
Bernie felt Spence would lose to the 6-foot-6 “Towering Inferno” Fandora, but still didn't think he could take on the man in a junior middleweight bout.
“I think it's wise to distance myself from Bud Crawford,” Bernie “The Boxer” Davis told FightHype regarding Sebastian Fandora's reported plans to vacate his WBO junior middleweight title ahead of his fight against Errol Spence in October.
Even if Spence wants to rematch Crawford right away, it won't happen. Crawford is focused on extending his unbeaten record at 154 pounds and faces WBA champion Israil Madrimov on August 3. The only way Crawford would fight Spence now would be if he beat Fandora to win the WBC junior middleweight title.
“I'm going to pick Fandora. I don't think Spence will dominate the junior middleweight division. He has the name recognition. I don't think he has the striking power of Tim Tsiu. I'm going to pick Fandora in this fight. I don't think he'll be able to knock out anybody with one punch. I don't think he'll dominate these guys.”
Fandora's “Towering Inferno”
“I saw The Towering Inferno. [Fundora] “I'm going to punch him, I'm going to beat him up in every way I can, I might have a little bit of sympathy for him,” Barney said when asked about his thoughts on Spence, before adding that this may be the last time boxing fans see Spence on The X show.
Fandora will try to knock Spence out, but it won't be easy as Spence is strong against taller fighters and this fighter is not at the same level as Crawford, Spence struggled against Crawford because he was out of weight and coming off a year off.
“I think he can still go further. I don't know how dominant he'll be, but I think he can still go further,” Davis said. “But he's already accomplished so much. If he chooses to retire, that's up to him. If Fandora beats him, he'll probably retire. Fandora will beat him.”
Bernie says Spence will likely retire if he loses to Fandora, and if Spence can't beat this guy, there's no point in him staying because it's a sign he's not cut it at junior middleweight.
“I don't think he can beat Fandora. He's got Crawford, so he should quit. He should go somewhere else. He should retire,” Bernie said.
