KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Big 12 announced Tuesday night that CPKC Stadium, home of the NWSL's Kansas City Current, has been selected as the host site. Sprouts Farmers Market Big 12 Soccer Championship on a two-year contract for the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
Kansas City hosted the championship from 2013 to 2019, but the postseason event has been held in Missouri eight times since the conference's first football season in 1996.
All games in the tournament will be held at the home of the Kansas City Current, a member of the National Women's Soccer League, from October 30th through November. 9, 2024 and from 1 to 8 November 2025.
CPKC Stadium at Berkeley Riverfront Park is the world's first stadium built exclusively for a women's professional sports team.
“This is just the beginning of our vision for CPKC Stadium and the possibilities for the events we can host here in Kansas City,” KC current president Raven Jemison said Tuesday. “It's no surprise that one of the first major events outside of KC Current's regular season games to be held at CPKC Stadium is the Big 12 Women's Soccer Championship.”
The Big 12 also announced Tuesday night that the men's and women's basketball championships will be held in Kansas City until at least 2031.
The 2024 Sprouts Farmers Market Big 12 Soccer Championship will consist of 11 games to be played between October 30th, November 2nd, November 6th and November 9th.
The number of participating teams for the 2024 season will be expanded to 16, with the top 12 teams advancing to the championship after Big 12 play, and the top four seeds advancing to the quarterfinals with byes.
Ticket information will be announced at a later date.
