The knockout stage of the 2024 Copa America continues today in Arlington, Texas, with Group B winners Venezuela facing Copa America debutant Canada to determine who will face tournament favorite Argentina in the semifinals.
Venezuela went through the group stage of the Copa America undefeated for the first time. They scored six goals, the second-most in group play, including two each from vice-captains Salomon Rondon and Eduardo Bello. The team reached the quarterfinals again after losing in the 2021 Copa America.
Canada's Copa America debut has gone smoothly, despite being in one of the toughest groups in the tournament. They were in Group A with Argentina, 2015 and 2016 Copa America winners Chile, and 2019 runner-up Peru. After a 2-0 loss to Argentina in their first match of the tournament, they beat Peru 1-0 and drew 0-0 with Chile. Jonathan David's goal against Peru remains Canada's only goal of the tournament so far.
This will be the third time these two teams have met in an international match but their first time in a tournament format – they drew 2-2 on June 1, 2007 and 1-1 on May 29, 2010.
