- Former UFC champion shares his reaction to Tommy Fury's call
Conor McGregor previously claimed he was no longer interested in fighting YouTuber-turned-boxer KSI, but he has changed his tune again regarding a potential matchup with KSI.
Following Anthony Joshua's victory over Robert Helenius at London's O2 Arena in August 2023, the Irishman called the London-born internet star to a bare-knuckle boxing match.
KSI and McGregor were also present as the former UFC champion stormed into the ring, saying: “I know your KSI is in the audience, but if you work in an egg carton factory, you can't box eggs.'' I guess so,” he said.
“So if he wants to come in here, I'll give him the final yoke, bare knuckles if you want.”
The 35-year-old has since rescinded his offer to fight the content creator, telling the Mirror he was “not interested” and that the initial call was a joke.
When asked why he made the comment, he replied, “It was just a bit of a whim.”
More recently, Tommy Fury staked out a fight with McGregor after Joshua scored a sensational second-round KO win over Francis Ngannou last week.
Fury scored a controversial majority decision win over KSI in October 2023 and is aiming for a sensational return to the ring against the former UFC champion, who once turned the Octagon into a boxing ring to face Manny Pacquiao. It seems so.
He told DAZN: “I saw Jake Paul fighting Mike Tyson, so why not me and McGregor next?” I have a comeback fight and I would like him to come back, so McGregor, please get in touch. ”
McGregor's UFC commitments could be hampered by the former champion's expected return from a serious leg injury sustained against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in 2021.
Despite his lucrative contract with the UFC, the Irish mixed martial arts star insisted he is open to fighting KSI despite potentially not being able to return to the ring.
McGregor told SneekPeakTV: “Yeah, YouTube nerds might think, “I'd call it a nixer.''
“Your uncle's friend needs a radiator installed in his house, so you do a side job to earn some extra money.''
“I think they're Nixers. If I had to pick one, I'd say KSI. He's a well-known figure in the UK.”
Fury also responded to the former Love Island star's desire to fight him.
'[Tommy] Fury called me yesterday and he beat Jake and fought KSI as well, so it's like another little world, right? ”
“I'm open to it,” McGregor concluded. “I never say no, I never say no.”
There were rumors that McGregor would return to action at UFC 300, but Dana White revealed that Alex Pereira will defend his light heavyweight title against Jamahal Hill in the main event of UFC 300. Therefore, the claim was rejected.
However, he has admitted he could return in 2024 and would like to fight Nate Diaz or Michael Chandler after a three-year hiatus.
Meanwhile, Jake Paul (27) shocked the boxing world when it was announced that he would face former absolute heavyweight champion Mike Tyson (57).
The meeting between the two has garnered a lot of attention online, with some fans baffled by the fight and others worried about the possibility of injury for Paul, who is also a YouTube boxing sensation. Some fans are warning.
And McGregor admitted he was embarrassed by the fight, insisting: “Paul’s… that’s…” [Mike] The Tyson fight is a strange fight for me. I hope Tyson takes the nose off.
“I’m sure at some stage [I’ll end up fighting one of them], I'm sure at some stage. You know, we're going to look at all of these guys.
