Brett Hedican is leaving the San Jose Sharks broadcast team.
The news was first reported by Hockey News and confirmed by San Jose Hockey Now.
THN said it was Hedican's choice to leave and his next steps are unclear.
Hedican began covering the San Jose Sharks in October 2009, shortly after retiring from playing, and joined NBC Sports California as a studio commentator. In 2014, he participated in Sharks game broadcasts, providing commentary alongside radio play-by-play announcer Dan Rusanowski and TV play-by-play announcer Randy Hearn.
Hedican in particular was adept at analyzing match videos and was known for his sometimes very direct commentary.

The Sharks have yet to announce who they will replace him with. Hedican shared the role with longtime commentator Drew Remenda last year.
Prior to joining the San Jose Sharks, Hedican enjoyed a 17-year NHL career playing 1,039 games with the St. Louis Blues, Vancouver Canucks, Florida Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes and Anaheim Ducks. The slick-skating defenseman won a Stanley Cup with the Hurricanes in 2006 and played in the U.S. Olympic Games in 1992 and 2006.
