Miami – After spending a night in a Miami detention center, the president of Colombia's football federation and his son have posted bail and are speaking out.
“It was completely unfair. Again, we are human beings. Anything can happen. But they started it first. It's ridiculous,” said his son, Ramon Jamil Jesuran.
“My ID gave me full access, but the bossy security guard didn't accept it. I insisted I could go in, and he pushed me away,” said Jesuran, the Colombian football federation president.
Ramon Jesuran, 71, and his son, Ramon Jamil Jesuran, 43, were arrested and charged with assault on a public servant. Police said the father and son assaulted two security guards and a woman who tried to intervene during chaos at the Copa America on Sunday at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium.
Hundreds of fans flocked to the venue Through the southwest gate of the stadium.
Some fans jumped fences and climbed air conditioning vents to get into the stadium.
The Jeslons appeared in bail court on Monday afternoon along with the others who were arrested.
Fernando Pérez was one of them.
He told CBS News Miami he had a ticket and flew in from Houston to watch the game, but got caught up in the chaos when he arrived.
“At one point, one of the gates opened and people started pouring in,” Perez said. “I was thrown to the ground and I was tasered. It was a really horrible experience. I was arrested and in jail for 24 hours for nothing.”
Perez was charged with assault on a police officer and resisting an officer without violence.
A judge issued a restraining order against Ramon Hamill Jesuran on behalf of a woman who was injured in the brawl.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levin Cava said she was outraged by the chaos at the Copa America match and that an investigation was underway.
