Clemson baseball team dominates Georgia Tech in series opener
In the first game of a doubleheader Friday afternoon at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, No. 4 Clemson scored 10 runs in the first three innings, seven Tigers had multiple hits, and defeated Georgia Tech. won 11-4 in the first game of a doubleheader. The Tigers led the series 1-0 and improved to 35-9 overall and 16-6 in the ACC. The Yellow Jackets fell to 27-16 overall and 11-11 in ACC play. Alden Mathes hit his eighth home run of the year in the first inning, extending his hitting streak to 10 games. Blake Wright then singled to two batters, extending his hitting streak to 14 games, and scored on Tristan Bissetta's double. After the Yellow Jackets scored an unearned run with two outs in the top of the second inning, Clemson scored five runs in the bottom of the second with two outs from Cam Canarella and two runs from Jack Crichton. Dai scored two runs on three hits, then Jacob Hinderleider hit a two-out single in the bottom of the third inning to extend his hitting streak to 10 games. Wright then hit his 17th three-run homer of the year, giving Clemson a 10-3 lead. In the top of the seventh inning, Matthew Ellis hit a solo home run, and Hinderrider responded with a run-scoring single with two outs and bases loaded. Reliever Lukas Mahlstedt (4-0) pitched 4.2 innings, allowing four hits, one run, two walks, and three strikeouts for the win. Starting pitcher Aiden Finatelli (5-2) pitched 2.0 innings, giving up seven hits and seven runs in the loss. The series will continue with the second game of the doubleheader starting at approximately 3:30 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
