New Zealand's squad is set to compete in the 2024 Olympic Games, which will be held at Paris La Defense Arena, Europe's largest indoor event venue, from July 27 to August 4.
The roster includes nine swimmers, five women and four men, and is poised to improve on Japan's medal-less performance at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago.
current world champion Lewis Clairvert and erica fairweather The former won the IM 400m in Doha, while the latter finished on the podium and led the way in the women's 400m free. Fairweather also won a silver medal in the 200m free and a bronze medal in the 800m at the February meet.
Veteran swimmers Clairbert and Fairweather commented on their excitement at being selected for the second Olympic team.
“I want to go to Paris. It's always special to compete at this level, but there's been a lot of hard work behind the scenes to prepare for the Olympics and I can't wait to show off the results. I can’t do it,” Fairweather said.
Clairbert said: “I never dreamed I would be an Olympian, let alone compete in my second Olympics. It's a huge honour, and I can't wait to represent New Zealand and bring Pukana to the world stage. I can’t!”
newcomer hazel Ohwehand The 24-year-old will aim to continue her momentum from last month's Olympic Trials, where she set Japanese records in the 50m fly (25.88) and 100m fly (57.43).
“It's been a dream of mine since I was little to go to the Olympics, so for it to come true is very special. I'm really excited about the Olympics and it's going to be a great field of athletes and I can't wait to put all of my hard work and training into practice,” said the Phoenix Aquatics ace.
Taiko Trepe Ormsby The University of Wisconsin swimmer is another rising star who became the fastest Kiwi swimmer in history with a time of 21.86 seconds in the men's 50m free at the trials.
