According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea have “officially” blocked Argentina's Enzo Fernandez from taking part in this summer's Olympics, and have done the same with Ukraine's Mykhailo Mudryk. We haven't actually heard anything “official” on this matter, but it's important to note that it's likely to happen in either case.
Enzo and Mudrik have already been pretty busy this summer with the Copa America and European Championships respectively, so having them play a few more weeks of international action at the Paris Olympics would be a bit silly. Not to mention, with a new head coach in charge and presumably part of his job being to get these two high-priced players to perform at the level expected of them, having them miss pre-season would be less than ideal.
And in a similar development, Chelsea prevented Maro Gusto and Benoit Badiashile from being included in France's Olympic squad along with Leslie Ugochukwu, much to the dismay of manager Thierry Henry.
This summer was the first summer I can remember where players had to worry so much about competing in the Summer Olympics, just another side effect of fielding a team made up primarily of players 23 and under.
