Chel Sonnen says he plans to box Jorge Masvidal in October due to recent beef

According to Chael Sonnen, he currently has two boxing matches scheduled.

Sonnen is scheduled to face former rival Anderson Silva in a 216-pound boxing match on June 15 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. According to Sonnen, their pro fight is scheduled for four three-minute rounds.

However, Sonnen said he also plans to face former UFC star Jorge Masvidal later this year. Sonnen and Masvidal have had an argument in the past, with Masvidal calling him a steroid cheat and threatening to break Sonnen's orbital bone. Sonnen said Masvidal's intimidation caused him to be moved to another location during his UFC 299 bout in Miami to avoid a potential encounter.

“Anderson told Chell to pick a ruleset, and it was a situation where I had always wanted to box,” Sonnen said on ESPN's “Good Guy/Bad Guy” with Daniel Cormier. “It was,” he said. “I'm thinking about this with Jorge Masvidal.

“If I'm just going to give away all these secrets, there's been talk about Jorge Masvidal since October of this year, but it's been going on ever since ESPN quarantined me in Miami to protect me at UFC 299. It keeps coming out,” Masvidal to me. Nothing hurt my ego more than me being in lockdown, and the reason I'm sharing that with you is because I knew this Masvidal thing was going to happen. ”

Masvidal is currently booked in his own boxing match. He will face Nate Diaz in a 175-pound, 10-round bout on July 6 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

“When I let the cat out of the bag in a Masvidal vs. Diaz fight, I don't want to step on Diaz's toes,” Sonnen said. “He's got that fight. … I've got Jorge in my sights and Anderson as well, as much as I really want to beat him, I'm going to go out there and beat him. As much as that, it's all a step in the process, because when I go in there with Masvidal, it's going to be eight rounds and they're going to use 10-ounce or 12-ounce gloves. It’s going to be a little different.”
