updateThe Charlotte Hornets have officially waived Davis Bertans.
Davis Bertans is in his eighth season in the NBA.
He finished the season averaging 6.7 points and 1.4 rebounds on 39.3% shooting from the field and 38.0% from three-point range in 43 games with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Charlotte Hornets.
On Saturday, Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reported that Bertans would be released by Charlotte.
Via Charania: “The Charlotte Hornets have waived Davis Bertans, source reports. Athletic @StadiumBertans, an eight-year NBA veteran who shot 38 percent from the 3-point line last season, was signed by the Hornets with a partially guaranteed contract.
Bertans was the 42nd pick in the 2011 NBA Draft and played eight seasons in the NBA with the San Antonio Spurs, Washington Wizards and Dallas Mavericks (in addition to the Thunder and Hornets).
His career averages are 7.7 points and 2.4 rebounds per game while shooting 42.2% from the field and 39.6% from three-point range in 475 regular season games.
He also played in 45 NBA playoff games (two starts) with the Spurs, Mavs and Wizards.
There's no doubt that Bertans would be an attractive free agent for a championship-contending team looking to add depth to its bench.
Meanwhile, the Hornets are coming off a season in which they finished as the 13th seed in the Eastern Conference with a 21-61 record.
They have missed the NBA playoffs for eight consecutive seasons.
The team has not reached the postseason since 2016, when Kemba Walker was still on the team.
