Let's not invite Charles Barkley to give us nuanced opinions on the game of basketball. It's pointless when he decides the game is over. Do we want to hear Charles Barkley analyze strategy? Definitely not. I want to hear him talk about how there's no point even talking about the game sitting there. I want to call Grant Hill a coward and call Sam Mitchell “One-Legged Sam.” These are important issues.
Here's why Charles Barkley is the biggest free agent in sports, or at least he will be. Whatever show he's on, he knows how to make it work. Put him on hockey, golf, basketball, whatever, and it's fine. He doesn't have to talk sports, just talk trash, and people will watch. Oh, TNT had the USA game last night. Put him on football, commentate the game, pair him with Clint Dempsey, even better. Two guys that talk trash to each other no matter what.
Even better, Chuck knows what's important. It's golf season. Forget the fact that it's U.S. Open week. Anyone who plays any golf at all is always going to get out on the golf course and try to get 18 holes. That's exactly what Chuck is doing, except he's playing on a big course with other stars. Don't ask him about the NBA Finals. What the hell is he going to say? Those words. Let them insult Grant Hill and Vince Carter. And please, someone film them playing golf today. We need to see what's at stake, what's being said, and all of the swings. Either way, it'll be better than the NBA Finals.
