The latest in the ongoing tedious back and forth between Anthony Joshua and Carl Froch came to light on Thursday when Froch released a WhatsApp conversation they had.
“I had a quick chat with Anthony Joshua yesterday,” the retired super middleweight champion of the world wrote in a post on his YouTube channel, “Froch On Fighting,” along with an image of the conversation.
“Just a little message exchange. He was asked about Cobra Carl Froch. One word reply, what did he say? He called me a p****. P****? I've never called a p****? I don't understand what that is. Obviously Anthony Joshua hates me.”
“It's unfortunate because we have a lot of history. I have no problem with Anthony Joshua. I'm just trying to be honest, but my honesty seems to really upset people. The truth sometimes hurts, but the truth also sets you free. I think his fight was [Daniel] Dubois could be in a close fight and I think that upsets him and makes him angry.”
Joshua will challenge new IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium on September 21. Froch, now a retired commentator, has often questioned the direction of Joshua's career and Joshua has appeared to take his criticisms to heart and fire back just as frequently.
In the same video, Froch mocked Joshua by showing a clip of the heavyweight counting out £20 notes.
“He lost a little bit of integrity,” continued Froch, who was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame after his retirement. “He got into this 'it's all about the money' mentality. He thought he'd pulled the trump card by saying he'd made more money than me. Where's the humble guy? I don't think you're just in it for the money. Maybe you are, maybe you were spoiled.”
“Let's talk about levels in terms of tradition and winning. A little fat kid from Mexico [Andy Ruiz] “Cobra never quit. That guy got beaten from pillar to post. The ref saw it and what did he do? He got up and quit. It's embarrassing. It's something Cobra would never do. That's for sure.”
