Senior Christian Lawson led the Little Hawkeye Conference with five goals in conference play, senior Nate Lampe led the league in points and assists and senior Caleb Mattes had three goals to lead the Cardinal defense in three shutout wins this spring.
All three players on the Newton boys soccer team were named to the All-Conference First Team among the recently announced squads.
Selected to the second team was senior forward Jacob Sweeney, while seniors Connor McPartlin and Jesus Murillo were named honorable mentions.
All-conference honors are based solely on statistics within conference play.
Lawson was tied for the league lead with five goals and second in points with 10. He was named to the first team at forward.
Lamp led the conference with nine assists and led the LHC in points with 13. He also scored two goals, tied for ninth in the league. Lamp was named to the first team as a midfielder.
Matthes, a first-team defender, ranked tied for fifth with three goals and tied for sixth with eight points. He also recorded two assists and helped lead the defense in shutouts of Pella Christian, Oskaloosa and Indianola.
Sweeney was tied for third in the league with four goals in conference play and was also tied for sixth with eight points.
McPartlin scored two goals and recorded two points as part of the Cardinals' defense, while Murillo started at midfield.
Newton was 3-3 in conference play, with one loss coming in double-overtime to state-ranked Norwalk and the other coming in a shootout loss to Pella.
Dallas Center Grimes High School won the Class 3A state championship this spring, while Norwalk High School and Indianola High School also made it to the state tournament.
