Christian Mbili handily defeated Mark Heffron on Saturday night in Quebec, Canada.
Former British and Commonwealth super-middleweight champion Heffron was no match for Mbili, dropping him with a powerful left hook to the body inside the opening 40 seconds.
The Englishman's face was clear as he collapsed, gasping for air, and his discomfort was clearly visible.
Heffron was then counted out by the referee, suffering his fourth loss in 35 professional fights (30-4-1).
Mbili (27-0, 23 KOs) remains unbeaten and is coming off a tough fight against Canelo Alvarez.
The Frenchman has been campaigning tirelessly to fight the undisputed super middleweight champion and is currently ranked in the top three at 168 pounds by all four major sanctioning organizations.
“I know Canelo is the best, everybody knows that,” Mbili said after his win over Rohan Murdoch in January.
“I want to prove that I am the best in this division. My goal is to fight Canelo. I will do everything I can to fight him.”
While Mbili's record looks impressive on paper, he is yet to face an unbeaten professional fighter or a top contender in the super middleweight division.
To have the best chance of beating Canelo, he'll need to step up his level in his next fight, and it looks like he will.
According to ESPN's Mike Coppinger, Mbili has signed a contract to fight three-time world title challenger Sergey Derevyanchenko on August 17 in Quebec City, Canada.
The agreement was contingent on Mbiri beating Heffron.
Considering he sustained minimal damage in his bout with “Kid Dynamite,” a three-month break would be ideal for Mbili as he looks to keep up his momentum.
Derevyanchenko has fought some of the best middleweight and super middleweight fighters of his generation, including Gennady Golovkin, Jermall Charlo and Daniel Jacobs.
Despite the calibre of opponents he faced, no one was able to stop the Ukrainian veteran at range.
If Mbilli can achieve what the aforementioned people could not, it will send a big message.
