Canelo Alvarez's next fight is reportedly close to being confirmed.
The Mexican superstar last successfully defended his undisputed super middleweight world title against Jaime Munguia over Cinco de Mayo weekend in May.
His next fight is expected to take place traditionally on September 14th (Mexican Independence Day weekend).
However, there has been little coverage of Canelo's return in recent weeks.
Now, ESPN Mexico reporter Salvador Rodriguez is reporting that the date could be pushed back by a few weeks.
This will allow Canelo to avoid competing at Dana White's UFC event at the Sphere in Las Vegas on September 14.
Rodriguez also reported that there are two possible opponents for Canelo.
One of them is Edgar Berlanga, who is managed by Eddie Hearn.
The Puerto Rican contender, 22-0 (17 KOs), is Canelo’s WBA mandatory challenger and has been calling for the challenge in recent months.
But he will be a big underdog in this contest.
Another potential opponent is Jermall Charlo, who boxes for Al Haymon's PBC.
Jermall's twin brother, Jermall Charlo, lost to Canelo in a disappointing bout last year.
Jermall is 33-0 (22 KOs), but many believe his prime is behind him.
The American is a former two-division world champion, but has been away from the ring for a long time due to injuries and mental health issues.
After all, he won't fight for more than two years, from June 2021 to November 2023.
Charlo finally returned late last year with a win over Jose Benavidez Jr., but that performance did not inspire confidence that he can beat Canelo.
The main fighter that most fans are hoping to see play is David Benavidez.
But it seems unlikely that Alvarez, who is 29-0 as the WBC mandatory challenger, will compete for the title, as even Alvarez knows all too well what a tough challenger he will be.
