Canada defeated Norway 4-1 on Thursday at the World Ice Hockey Championship, not allowing a single shot on goal in the first two periods, and winning its fourth straight game.
The United States scored four early goals to beat France 5-0, while Sweden maintained its perfect record by defeating Kazakhstan and Austria dominated Finland.
In Group A in Prague, Canada took a two-goal lead with Brandon Tanev scoring from close range in the first period and Andrew Mangiapane adding two in the second.
Norway didn't get their first shot on goal until early in the third period, but Stian Solberg converted his second to make it 2-1.
Dylan Cozens extended the lead to 3-1 with an unassisted short goal, and Jared McCann added his fourth into an empty net with an assist from Dawes.
Canada plays Finland on Saturday.
In Ostrava's Group B, Matt Boldy scored two goals and provided one assist against France. Brock Nelson had a goal and two assists, Johnny Gaudreau added a goal and an assist, and Shane Pinto also scored.
In the early stages, the front line of Boldy, Gaudreau, and Nelson dominated.
Nelson scored the first goal 45 seconds into the game, Boldy hit two one-timers, and then Gaudreau added a fourth from the right circle.
Pinto scored with 2:08 left in the final period, with goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic stopping 10 shots for the shutout.
It was the second win for the Americans, who will face Poland on Friday.
Prior to this, Sweden defeated Kazakhstan 3-1. Linus Johansson, Marcus Johansson and Fabian Zetterlund scored to give Sweden their fourth win in Ostrava, taking them top of Group B.
Kazakhstan's Adil Beketayev scored the goal.
In Group A held in Prague, Austria defeated Finland 3-2, earning their first victory in the tournament and also their first win in a world championship. Benjamin Baumgartner scored the winning goal with one second remaining, ending a fightback from a two-goal deficit.
Oliver Kapanen scored his sixth goal in the tournament, and Saku Maenalanen also scored to give Finland a 2-0 lead.
Mario Huber started the rally and Timo Nickel tied the score for Austria midway through the final period, but Canada went into overtime in the final game and lost 7-6.
