There may not be many Philadelphia sports trifectas this spring, so we'll have to enjoy them when they do.
The Sixers, Phillies and Flyers all play Tuesday night.
The Sixers are 15.5 point favorites, and their -1350 moneyline price is great for parlay builders. Zach Wheeler is emerging as a small favorite to win the pitcher's duel with Sonny Gray against the Phillies in St. Louis. And the Flyers are on a salvage mission in Montreal to salvage what remains of their wild-card hopes. Despite losing seven straight, the Flyers are in a better position than the already eliminated Canadiens.
The Sixers/Phillies/Flyers moneyline parlay pays out between +217 and +225 depending on the PA sportsbook app and the New Jersey sportsbook app. It's not a bad price, but I think it comes down to whether you trust the Flyers or not.
Anyway, here are some numbers and thoughts on how to approach all three games.
sixers pistons
Let's start with the most exciting team in town right now.
With Joel Embiid back, the Sixers can't stop winning and are in prime position to at least clinch the No. 7 seed and host a 7-8 play-in game.
Detroit stinks, with only three-fifths of its projected starting lineup being regular NBA players. In November and December, when the Pistons were struggling a bit, the Sixers beat the Pistons by 8 points, 18 points, and 32 points.
Embiid scored 33, 35, and 41 points in those three games. I would like to beat this big man's 29.5 points or more. That would likely be the last time we see him with less than 30 points for the rest of the season.
I won't go into too much detail about other players' props. This would be explosive, as Nick Nurse could rest Embiid and other starters for Thursday's game against Orlando.
Phillies vs Cardinals
It's an odd place for Sonny Gray to break down, as he's making his season debut in St. Louis.
For most of his career, Gray oscillated between serviceable and above-average talent. He doesn't do anything great, but he pitches a solid five or six innings in most starts.
Six different Phillies faced Gray more than 10 times during his career. Trea Turner is the only player with a career batting average above .250.
Unfortunately for fans of FanDuel Dinger Tuesday, there are no dingers in St. Louis. Gray allowed a total of eight home runs last season, while Wheeler allowed one home run in his last five regular season starts.
7.5 under and especially 5 under from 1st place is a sure bet. I think the Phillies have an advantage because while Wheeler will probably easily pitch 6-7 innings, Gray may have issues with pitch count and St. Louis' staff ERA is 4.55.
canadiens flyer
Sigh.
Is there any hope left for the Flyers to turn things around?
If there is one, I can't help but think this is the last stand.
Montreal has lost seven straight and has already defeated the Flyers once. The losses then got even uglier against Chicago, the Islanders, Buffalo, and Columbus.
The Flyers have allowed at least four goals in each loss in this skid. The Habs allowed just 16 points in three straight games against the Rangers, Maple Leafs and Lightning.
At the very least, is there a chance that there will be a lot of goals and overs? Really that's all I got.
If you want to put together a parlay, I think Sixers ML, Phillies ML, and Flyers Hubs Over 6 are the best. Basically the odds are the same as ML parlay.
Also, if you want to avoid the Flyers completely, open the PA Real Money Casino app instead.
