On the latest episode of All the Smoke Unplugged, Matt and Stack talked about Anthony Joshua's KO of Francis Ngannou in the second round of their recent fight.
Matt pointed out that Ngannou earned $600,000 for his most recent MMA fight, while his past two boxing bouts earned him $30 million. Matt has some respect for Ngannou's leap into the depths of the boxing world, but there are others who are skeptical and don't like it. How does the stack feel?
Stack said he respects Ngannou, noting that he is a fighter through and through. Stack pointed out that Ngannou had success in his fight with Tyson Fury, so he really wanted to test himself against a guy like Joshua. But Stack points out that UFC and boxing are two completely different things. Stack, who continued to train in boxing throughout his life, said someone who reached Joshua's level would knock out any UFC fighter who stepped into the boxing ring. And conversely, UFC fighters will have an advantage over boxers stepping into the Octagon. Stack said he was a fan of both Ngannou and Joshua, but felt like he knew how the fight would go because Joshua is a pure boxer who has been fighting for a long time. But Stack believes Ngannou is someone who can shake up the boxing world, even if no one from the UFC leaves his mark on the boxing world.
Matt says this is a big leap, training your whole life to do something and then switching. Matt says he has to give Ngannou a lot of respect for stepping into the ring, and once again points out how well-paid Ngannou has been during his boxing career thus far. So he's not upset about the crossover, but for Ngannou or any other potential transfer, he needs to know that it's a 24/7 job. .
