Madison, Wisconsin — Wisconsin Athletics will begin selling alcoholic beverages in general seating areas at Camp Randall Stadium, beginning with the football season home opener on Friday, Aug. 30. The Athletics will offer pre-packaged alcoholic beverages, including beer, wine and hard seltzer, and sales will also begin at the UW Field House, home of the Badger women's volleyball and men's wrestling teams.
The change makes the University of Wisconsin-Madison the 16th Big Ten Conference institution to sell alcohol in general seating areas of its football stadium.
“The option to purchase alcohol is common at collegiate athletic facilities across the country, and we are pleased to be able to offer it as part of the fan experience at Camp Randall,” said Chancellor Jennifer L. Mnookin. “I appreciate the work our athletic department and administrative teams have done to put together a plan that balances this opportunity with public safety.”
Similar to Kohl Center and La Verne, fans at Camp Randall will be limited to purchasing two drinks per person. University of Wisconsin Police will be increasing security on-site, and fans will continue to have access to a text line to report any issues they encounter. Additionally, the ID policy at the stadium will be similar to Kohl Center and La Verne: anyone who appears to be under the age of 40 will be required to show ID, which will be checked by electronic scanners.
“We were pleased with the strong alcohol sales we saw last season during basketball and hockey seasons at the Kohl Center and LaVern Arena, and we expect similar sales at Camp Randall this fall,” Director of Athletics Chris McIntosh said.
A portion of the proceeds from alcohol sales will help fund existing and future campus-led initiatives to promote student health and encourage responsible alcohol use, including providing alcohol-free programs for students and supporting students experiencing challenges related to high-risk behaviors.
