BYU Basketball has four-star Texas Tech transfer Pop Isaacs in the top three. According to Jeff Goodman, Isaacs has two years of eligibility remaining, including Creighton University, St. John's University and BYU. Isaacs just finished his second season as the Red Raiders' leading scorer. He averaged 15.8 points per game, 3.5 assists per game, and 3.2 rebounds per game. After the season, he was named to the All-Big 12 Third Team.
BYU fans witnessed Isaacs' ability to fill up the stat sheet. In January, Isaacs led Texas Tech to an upset victory over BYU. In this game, he recorded 32 points, 4 assists, and 5 rebounds.
In the Big 12 Tournament, BYU once again had trouble containing Isaacs. He scored 22 points and was able to keep BYU at arm's length from start to finish.
His efficiency was a concern at times. During his playing days, he was one of the best scorers in the country. When he caught a cold, he was very inefficient. By the end of the season, he was averaging 35% from the floor and 29% from three. But he was tasked with creating a lot of offense for Texas Tech. Perhaps pairing him with Darin Hall will take a step forward in his offensive efficiency.
Isaacs has ties to BYU, which is probably why BYU is a shortlist of many big-name schools that have recruited Isaacs. Isaacs spent two years of high school at Wasatch Academy in Utah. He was teammates with current BYU players Richie Saunders and Husseini Traore.
If BYU can beat Creighton and St. John's, Isaacs is exactly what BYU needs on the court. Off the court, BYU and new head coach Kevin Young will need to thoroughly evaluate Isaacs. A civil lawsuit accusing Isaacs of sexual misconduct during a trip to the Bahamas last year was recently dismissed. Given BYU's honor code and affiliation with the church, they will have to weigh these allegations against the implications of bringing Isaacs to her BYU.
BYU's roster is starting to take shape. BYU will look to fill the final spot on its roster over the next few weeks.
