After a rough start to the season, it seemed like the Chicago Bulls were doomed, but as the year went on, their potential future plans became brighter and brighter. Not only did they propel themselves back into the play-in race, but Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu emerged as solid building blocks.
Now, as they prepare for the offseason, they need to set their sights on adding more young talent to help White and Dosunmu. At the same time, they should be looking to add players who can develop into solid players themselves, as they don't have any great young talent on the roster outside of White and Dosunmu.
No Ceilings' recent NBA mock draft has them selecting a player who can meet both of these traits: South Carolina product Colin Murray-Boyles.
“Colin Murray Boyles of the University of South Carolina is one of the most productive freshmen in the 2024 class,” Corey Turaba wrote. The 6'7″ left-hander, who has a rumored 7'2″ wingspan, has some Julius Randle aspects to his game, combining physicality and finesse. Murray Boyles is a crafty interior scoring presence with a playmaking feel who can attack face-up or shut down opponents and finish on the block. Defensively, he can move his feet and provide plenty of rim protection while switching to the perimeter, allowing him to play minutes at five. Murray Boyles' lack of perimeter shooting ability doesn't fill an immediate need for a Bulls team that ranks in the bottom 10 in long-range shooting, but it's a young, talented player who has beaten advanced statistical models. Taking a swing at a forward is a worthwhile swing. It's the flip side of the lottery for mid-major teams that need an influx of young talent. ”
Murray Boyles isn't a shooter, but he's the type of versatile forward who could be an interesting piece in a Bulls lineup that already has plenty of offensive ability.
