The Warriors lost a franchise icon this offseason when Klay Thompson chose to move to the Dallas Mavericks in NBA free agency, but the team moved quickly to fill the hole.
Golden State acquired Kyle Anderson (from the Minnesota Timberwolves) and Buddy Hield (from the Philadelphia 76ers) in a sign-and-trade that completed the five-team Thompson sign-and-trade, The Athletic's Anthony Slater reported Thursday, citing sources.
When news of Thompson's move to Dallas broke Monday in a multi-team sign-and-trade deal that also involved the Charlotte Hornets, it was initially unclear what the Warriors would receive in return.
Shortly thereafter, a source confirmed to NBC Sports Bay Area's Monte Poole that the Warriors would receive two future second-round draft picks in exchange for avoiding giving up the salary. By not giving up the salary, the Warriors created a trade exception of just under $16 million that could be used for a future move.
Those future moves ended up being Anderson and Hield.
Anderson agreed to a three-year, $27 million contract, sources confirmed to NBC Sports Bay Area's Pool on Tuesday. According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Warriors acquired Anderson as part of a sign-and-trade deal, sending a future second-round pick and cash to the Timberwolves.
Golden State then acquired Hield in a sign-and-trade with Philadelphia, The Athletic's Shams Charania reported Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter. The Warriors reportedly plan to give the 76ers the 2031 second-round pick that Golden State received from Dallas in the sign-and-trade that sent Thompson to Texas.
