Bubba “Badman” Jenkins is preparing for his long-awaited return to the Octagon against fellow featherweight contender Gabriel Alves Bulaga at PFL 6, which takes place at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on June 28. Jenkins spoke with me about this season and what the future holds.
Jenkins is known for his entertaining character and the skill to match: he entered MMA as a national champion in wrestling at Arizona State University and has worked with renowned coach Dewey Cooper to continually improve his striking attack.
“I pride myself on being a complete mixed martial artist. I win points by knockout or submission.”
– Bubba Jenkins
Jenkins is eager to move on to his next bout after losing a unanimous decision to Kai Kamaka in a closely fought bout in which both fighters emerged victorious, although the judges awarded the victory to Kamaka.
“What I learned is that if you have a chance to really step on the gas and get the job done, it's important not to leave it in the hands of the umpire.”
– Bubba Jenkins
Looking ahead to his next bout, Jenkins has no animosity towards Gabriel Bulaga, speaks highly of him and has made it clear that the aim of this bout is to get the finish and the points that go with it.
“I love everything Braga has done and the team he represents. This is pure business. I have to get these points.”
– Bubba Jenkins
Due to the result of his last bout, Jenkins is in a position where he needs a finish to qualify for the playoffs this season, and while there are several fighters ahead of him in the current standings, Jenkins made it clear that getting a finish is what's most important to him in order to secure a spot in the playoffs.
“I like being in that position. I believe I'm the type of fighter that can do it.”
– Bubba Jenkins
Jenkins has had a successful career in mixed martial arts and is still working to add more to his list of accolades. He has also spent time pursuing other careers, including commentating, working in the cannabis industry and pursuing his passion for cooking, so he's more than prepared when his time inside the cage ends.
“I'm not going to fight forever. I have to prepare myself for that.”
– Bubba Jenkins
Jenkins will next face Gabriel Alves Braga at PFL 6 on June 28th. Make sure to tune in.
