The Bemidji State University men's hockey team continued its strong run into the postseason, defeating Ferris State University in the Mason Cup quarterfinals last weekend and advancing to the semifinals against Lake Superior State University this Saturday.
The Beavers are undefeated in their last 10 games heading into the next round as the CCHA playoffs have moved from a three-game series to a win-or-go-home format. On Tuesday, the team stayed true to their style of play against the Lakers while sharing how their players' mindsets change during this time.
“Both teams want to get off to a good start, so we have to play a 60-minute game,” head coach Tom Serratore said. “You don't want to be a 40-minute team, a 45-minute team, a 50-minute team this time of year. You want to be a 60-minute team, which, you know, means playing consistently and dialing in that line. Because I just want to double check what I'm doing. I mean… now it's a sprint.”
“I’m expecting a pretty good game,” sophomore defenseman Mitch Wolfe added. “And they've been really good lately and have a really sophisticated offense. They like to get the puck out and go, so we're going to be ready for that speed.”
The game will be played at Sanford Center in Bemidji on Saturday, March 16th at 7 p.m.
The CCHA also announced its Player of the Year and fifth-year senior captain Kyle Loft was named CCHA Defenseman of the Year from Bemidji State University. In addition, the CCHA Goaltender of the Year award goes to junior Matthias Scholl, who has performed well over the past few games.
