Bryce Harper wants to compete in the Olympics before it's all over.
The outspoken Phillies superstar has called for Major League Baseball to consider temporarily suspending its season for the other Olympics, as the WNBA does with the Summer Olympics and the NHL does with the Winter Olympics.
While U.S. teams are typically made up of minor leaguers and former MLB players, Harper is eager to take on the challenge and represent the red, white and blue.

He made the remarks before the Phillies' 6-5 loss to the Mets in the final game of MLB's two-game London Series over the weekend.
The 2028 Summer Olympics will be held in Los Angeles, and baseball will return after a trial run in 2020 after missing in 2016 and 2012.
“There's nothing more global than the Olympics,” Harper told reporters while in London. “It's the Olympics, so I watch the most random sports. It's amazing. I love hockey. It's one of my favorite sports to watch. For the NHL to take a three-week hiatus and allow the players to play is another big goal we have as Major League Baseball.”
He continued, “I've talked to a lot of people in MLB about it. I'd love to be a part of it. There is (the World Baseball Classic), but it's not the same. It's different. The Olympics is something you dream of going to.”
Currently, only amateur and professional baseball players not on the 40-man roster are allowed to participate in the Olympics, meaning major leaguers cannot represent their country mid-season.
On its 2021 roster (the Summer Olympics were postponed a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic), the U.S. national team included players like Scott Kazmir, Edwin Jackson, Simeon Woods Richardson and Todd Frazier, all of whom played in the majors, or in SWR's case, worked their way up and ended up playing.

The U.S. team won the silver medal despite losing to Japan, who suspended their domestic league to participate in the Olympics. The Japanese team included Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who later signed with the Dodgers, former Yankees pitcher Masahiro Tanaka, and current Mets starting pitcher Kodai Senga.
The 2028 Olympics are scheduled to take place from July 14 to 30.
Since it became an official medal event in 1992, the U.S. team has only won one gold medal, in 2000, led by Ben Sheets and Roy Oswalt.
The U.S. team also won a silver medal and two bronze medals at the Olympics.
Harper, who will turn 35 in 2028, was scheduled to play for the United States in the 2023 World Baseball Classic last spring but opted out after undergoing Tommy John surgery in November 2022.
Harper played for the U.S. National Team's Under-16 team in 2008 and Under-18 team in 2009 before being selected first overall in the 2010 MLB Draft.
